What candidates said, and what the record shows
After the official candidate list is finalized, we review each City Council candidate's own website, quote their factual claims word for word, and compare each one against official government records. Every review shows the exact sentence, the records we checked, and links so you can read the originals yourself.
Status
Ready — awaiting the official candidate list
Candidate filing closes August 7, 2026 (August 12 for an office if its incumbent does not file). Reviews begin only after candidates qualify in official City Clerk records and are published only after human review. No claim review is generated by software alone.
The only labels we use
Verdicts are deliberately unemotional. A verdict describes the relationship between a claim and available official records — nothing more.

How a review is made
1. Quote first
Before any analysis, the exact sentence is captured verbatim from the candidate's website with a link to the page. If the sentence cannot be quoted, it cannot be reviewed. This prevents mischaracterizing what a candidate actually said.
2. Classify
Each statement is classified. Positions, promises, opinions, and predictions stop here — they are shown as stated and never rated true or false. Only factual claims continue.
3. Check official records only
Evidence comes from government sources: City of Burbank records, budgets, agendas, minutes and staff reports, Los Angeles County, State of California agencies, and federal statistical agencies. Blogs, opinion articles, social media, and campaign websites are never used as proof. When official sources conflict, we show every source and explain the difference.
4. Human review, then publish
Software drafts; people decide. Every review is checked by a person before publication, and every published review shows its review date, its update date, and its revision history. Campaigns can respond to any review.
Corrections and campaign responses
Every published claim includes a path to submit a correction, a campaign response, or additional evidence. Submissions are marked Pending Review, and after human review the claim is marked Updated, Correction Added, or Clarification Added — with the change recorded in the claim's revision history.
This review evaluates factual claims using publicly available government records and other authoritative sources. Policy opinions and campaign promises are not fact checked.
